About me and my site
This is where I try to work through different topics around technology, consumerism, and the economy.
Consider everything a work in progress, and thoughts of my own.
Nothing is reflective of the views of my employer.
The internet has changed over my lifetime
I was born in the early 90s. Growing up, the internet was the thing. I had big hopes.
And now, the internet is...a bit shit. Actually, many things are a bit shit.
Some thanks to the internet, other things because of corporate greed that’s grown alongside the internet.
Don’t get me wrong, we have a lot of really interesting, useful, beautiful things that run on the internet.
But for the average person, life is progressively getting worse.
I'm thinking my way through this blog
Has tech has been shit from the beginning, or has become shit thanks to a ton of IPOs and the following optimizations for shareholder value?
What else is getting worse, thanks to this peak-capitalism/neoliberalism/growth-at-all-costs moment?
Perhaps the tech thing is baked into the internet, from the architecture itself. Or perhaps tech is an unremarkable symptom of larger economic issues we’re living with.
This blog is a way for me to think through (and perhaps make peace with) our current cultural moment. Don't expect regular posts, but I'm going to write while I enjoy doing it.
Contacting me
I don’t have an email I can put online. If you’re interested in contacting me, ping me on LinkedIn.
Updated April 2025.
I’m hosted on Ghost!
Ghost is a publication platform that lets me publish and share my content.
It’s a nonprofit, which means no investors (VC or otherwise) asking for money and growth.
It costs a small amount of money per month. But I’m happy paying a small fee to use a service that prioritizes users, not the bottom line.
